She creates functional pieces that explore the intersection of contemporary craft with fine art and design, often incorporating sculptural elements such as exaggerated curves and oversized, industrial-looking handles. These unusual functional components invite new perspectives, such as a different approach to an action as simple as holding a mug. Deeply influenced by the Bauhaus, minimalist art, neo-concretism, geometric abstraction, and modern quilting, Hoover’s body of work is wheel-thrown and hand-built with a creamy white clay body and an emphasis on surface decoration. Utilizing the technique of hard-edge painting, she uses masking tape and underglaze to paint meticulous, repeated patterns and bold graphic motifs on the surfaces of each piece, which then can drastically warp and distort over the strong curves and shoulders of the 3-dimensional forms. Hoover brings a PhD (Louisiaina State University) and a 15-year career in the sciences to her craft. In her work, there is a tension between a scientific striving for “perfection” with the awareness of the limits of control and embrace of imperfections such as visible brush strokes or glaze bleeding and drips. These variations reveal that each piece is unique, handmade, and an organic collaboration between the artist and her materials.

@knookceramics

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0514/3301/3445/files/Hoover_Diana_Verge_1-DianaHoovercopy.jpg?v=1791579628
rebecca-jones-cat-cup
Rebecca Jones, Cat Cup

Purchased cups will be available to pick up or have shipped after the exhibition is over - December 8th, 2026.

CAT Cup, 2026, Clay, Cone 5/6, Painting, H-4 x W-3 x D-3"

I received my BFA in painting from East Carolina University and studied at the New York Studio School. Her process combines hand-building, moldmaking, casting, and mixed-media construction, allowing material, form, and process to become integral parts of the narrative. By merging and manipulating the human form with elements from the natural world, she creates hybrid figures and environments where the tangible and imagined coexist.
At the heart of her work lies a central question: How do we find a sense of belonging while continually moving between identities and places? Human-tree figures, shells, ravens, roots, nests, and floating islands give physical form to experiences of transformation, exile, displacement, and uprootedness. Shaped by dreams, Surrealism, Magical Realism, and her Mexican heritage, her narratives occupy a middle ground where identity remains fluid and layered.
Her connection to the American South has developed through almost a decade of living, studying, teaching, and making art in South Texas. After traveling and teaching abroad, I moved back to New Orleans in 2022 where I taught art in the Orleans public school system for 2 years. Following a career transition and a leap of faith, I began pouring myself into ceramics at the New Orleans Clay center, where I have been a member since April 2025.
