Collection: Artist Spotlight: Nicole Bunis
Beyond papermaking, Nicole has a deep love for sewing, incorporating her handmade paper into quilt-like textiles. Sewn into each quilt are family memories, keepsakes, and personal histories, turning fabric and fiber into layered narratives of resilience and tradition. The quilts on display are made from handmade paper crafted from recycled blue jeans, invasive seaweed, abaca, kozo, linen, onion skins, flax, and corn husks.
Her work is deeply rooted in family history, drawing on stories of survival and traditions passed down through generations. Inspired by bodies of water and the power of storytelling, she continues to explore the connections between memory, material, and place with the help of the cyanotype process to include images of the matriarchs in her family.
Nicole also teaches art workshops at Ogden including paper marbling and an upcoming bookbinding workshop in May.
