Her work explores human connection with the
environment and our relationship with ourselves and others. Intricate patterns and textures
found in nature, from the microscopic to the macrocosmic, become threadlike ceramic forms, lines, and porous vessels, that highlight the delicate balance between growth and decay. She integrates clay with discarded objects—fragments of memories—interacting in soft, enticing, or peculiar ways. Clays and glazes ripple and ooze as they expand and melt while other forms appear bound and compressed, accentuating their effect upon one another. Each component is made with a spectrum of clay bodies and processes to exemplify the effects of air, fire, and water. Some forms are strong, durable, and functional while others are more like remnants or residue, showing the effects of time and loss.

brooke is Associate Professor of Studio Art at Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, LA.
