She earned her BFA in Printmaking with a minor in Art History from Central Michigan University and later received her MFA from the University of Alabama, where she attended on a full fellowship.
Her artistic practice has taken her across the United States through exhibitions and artist residencies. She has participated in residencies at the Vermont Studio Center, Paducah Artist-in-Residence Program, and Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts. Her work has been exhibited at venues including the Art Museum of the University of Memphis in Memphis, Tennessee; BoxHeart Gallery in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; the Sabatini Gallery in Topeka, Kansas; and the Ann Arbor Art Center in Michigan.
Rooted in a long-standing interest in material, memory, place, and the ways we experience our surroundings, Wiseman’s work has evolved across printmaking, mixed media, and ceramics. Her current ceramic practice explores fragmented imagery, architectural forms, pattern, and the shifting space between tangible experience and memory.
Sgraffito and ceramic washes allow her to build these spaces through layers of mark and material. She carves into the surface of the clay, creating lines that define, divide, and connect areas of the form. Washes settle into these marks, sometimes emphasizing them and sometimes obscuring them. The process becomes a physical translation of thought: something intangible and fleeting is transformed into a permanent mark in clay.
Sarah is interested in the tension between the object itself and the spaces created across its surface. The ceramic form becomes both an object and a space for remembering, a place where fragments of structure and emotion can be made concrete.

@sedimentclaystudio

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0514/3301/3445/files/wiseman.sarah.remnantcup-SarahWisemancopy.jpg?v=1791580530
