Casey Parkinson uses clay to create a diverse range of wheel-thrown pottery, sculpture, and installation art. Her sculptural art pieces are influenced by the natural surroundings of the small town in Louisiana where she grew up as well as Seattle, Washington, where she resides currently.  Some current themes to her work include fired clay flower petals from roses and camellias combined with sculpted and thrown ceramic pieces to create novel textures, shapes, and forms. Recent functional pottery explores the interplay between symmetry of form and perception of movement; a finalized vessel may show playful impressions but preserves balance of form to maintain the semblance of a unified piece.

Casey attended Southeastern Louisiana University, where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree concentrating in Ceramics in 2008.  She obtained a Master of Fine Arts from Louisiana Tech University in 2014. Casey has completed artist residences at Anderson Ranch Art Center in 2016, Snowmass Village, Colorado and at the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art 2017 – 2019, Salt Lake City, UT.  Casey’s award-winning artwork has been featured in national and international juried exhibitions and published in various periodicals including the New York Times.   Casey has enjoyed teaching art to underserved communities in public schools and currently lives in Seattle, WA, with her husband and two young children, where she continues to create from her home studio.
