Title: Against The Grain, Year: 2026, Meduum: Clay, Glaze, and Driftwood. Process: The cup body was made by using a combination of hand building and wheel throwing. The texture of the cup was carved to mimic some of the notches and groups of holes I saw in different pieces of driftwood. The handle is a piece of driftwood I found on the shore of Bay St. Louis, Mississippi that I whittled and shaped. Dimensions: 5” W (including handle) x 4.5” H. Retail price: $50.

Chris Tiberio is a ceramics artist that has lived in New Orleans for nearly 15 years. He is inspired by the trees, waterways, and landscapes of Louisiana and Coastal Mississippi. He uses that inspiration to create handbuilt ceramics inspired by the wild landscapes of the Gulf South. Each piece is thoughtfully crafted, celebrating the unique textures and forms found in nature. From smooth glazes to rugged edges, his pieces reflect the landscapes that inspire him. He blends clay and the natural textures of found objects like driftwood, oyster shells, and walnuts to create ceramics that bring the outdoors to each piece. His work is a story of adventure and artistry that is rooted in natural discovery.
