David was raised in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, and graduated from Henderson University in Arkadelphia in 1976 with a Bachelor of Arts degree and a major in Art with an emphasis on ceramics. David became the resident potter at the Ozark Folk Center in 1978 after working at Dryden Pottery in Hot Springs, Arkansas. The Ozark Folk Center is dedicated to the preservation of traditional Ozark crafts. That required a traditional kick wheel which he had built for this purpose  At the Folk Center he built a 64 cubic foot gas car kiln which is still being used today. He demonstrated pottery at the Folk Center for 18 years before establishing a studio adjacent to his home in Mountain View. There he built a propane fired kiln to continue to produce functional stoneware pottery. Over the past year, he has lowered the firing temperature to Cone 6 which has required much experimentation with clay and glazes. His work ranges from functional kitchenware to large one-of-a-kind slab pots focused on form and decoration.
