The Serpentine Cup 1, 2026, Lovestone Clay fired Cone 10 with carvings of snake and floral motifs, 3 1/2 " height * 3" in circumference
A native New Orleanian, Maisha Joshua is a ceramicist whose practice began with intuitive vessels shaped by organic forms, hand‑carved textures, expressive markings, and vibrant image transfers on red and white clay. She is a founding member of the New Orleans Clay Collective, a small studio created by four potters committed to working in a safe, supportive, and creative space. Maisha developed her skills as a student of Byrdie’s Pottery, where she continues to teach and maintain an active studio practice. A lifelong learner, she is continually refining her craft through exploration, experimentation, and daily making. In addition to her artistic work, she is a full‑time administrator at a local arts conservatory high school. Her current direction centers on new techniques and forms, including a growing ritual line of ceramics designed for everyday use as well as for altar and spiritual spaces. These pieces reflect her ongoing interest in creating objects that hold intention, beauty, and moments of pause.
