Rebecca (Becky) Allen is a multidisciplinary artist and ceramicist based in her hometown of New Orleans. She holds an MFA in Interdisciplinary Dance Performance from Tulane University (2021), where she integrated sculpture into her choreographic research. Working primarily in stoneware, Allen approaches clay through an embodied, intuitive process of throwing, altering, carving, and drawing. Her background in dance informs her attention to line, rhythm, movement, space, and the relationship between body and material. Her ceramic work explores these ideas through functional objects and sculptural forms, often incorporating geometric shapes, gesture, and color. Allen’s connection to the South is rooted in her relationship to New Orleans and its distinctive landscape, architecture, waterways, weather, and colors. She is interested in how objects can reflect a sense of place and carry traces of the environments in which they are made. She currently maintains RA|Studio in New Orleans, creating functional pottery and sculptural ceramics.
