I am at my best when I'm creating. Making art keeps me grounded and connected to the world in an insightful and constructive way. A native of Charlotte, NC, I am a graduate of East Carolina University with a BFA in Painting. I studied with Robert Storr at The New York Studio School in 1986. I lived and painted in Berlin from 1989-93, and New York 1997-2000. I was chosen for a residency at McColl Center for Creative Arts, Charlotte, NC in 2002 and recieved a commission for 36 paintings from The Levine Children's Hospital, Charlotte, NC in 2008. I moved to New Orleans during the pandemic and currently have work at LeMieux Gallery. Last year, 2024, I won Best in Show at CresentCityClayfest in New Orleans. I've worked in many media including encaustic, drawing, and printmaking. I use clay the way I use paint, part methodical, part spontaneous and gestural. Often I use glass and metals in my sculptures. I am always experimenting to keep my ideas fresh and my work unpredictable.
