Rey Hope Hansen (they/them) is a visual artist and educator specializing in handmade functional ceramics. Their creative practice is based in improvisation and attunement to the body, working with themes of dreams, prayer, acceptance, and liberation for all. After taking a local ceramics class in 2017 they began making work full time, learning through practice and community. Since 2018 they have worked under the moniker “Hold Space Ceramics” as a member of Byrdie’s, a community pottery studio in the Marigny, where they now teach classes and hold the Tech and Facilities Supervisor role. They sell work around New Orleans at Byrdie's, The LA Guild, Zele Nola, and the Ogden Museum Store. Hold Space has shown at local festivals Bayou Boogaloo, Po-Boy Fest, Freret St Festival, and Festival International in Lafayette, LA.
